Description
Painted around 1990 after one of several trips to Annapolis, MD to visit family we discovered the National Gallery probably my favorite place beside the Clark Art Museum here in Williamstown Massachusetts just over on the other side of Mount Greylock and a short drive.
At the National thru the years we've seen exhibits such as Van Gogh, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Johannes Varmeer, Thomas Moran, James McNeill Whistler, Jan Steen, John Singer Sargent and more, any one of these would keep me fired-up for weeks. While the Clark Art Museum is just as exciting to visit with a fantastic collection of French impressionist painters they recently had a show of Boldini's work. That show knocked my socks off. Their collection is so thrilling that I made a trip there just to make a video of the permanent collection.

Hi Len - I appreciate the strength and scale of this small painting, created by the comparison between the hugh columns and the people, and the contrast between the warm and cool areas - Chris

This masterful painting expresses so powerfully how much we treasure the works within -- protected from all weathers and harms by this majestic building which people flock to see on any day. The lighting and atmosphere, as always, give this painting power and meaning beyond words.
